Misadventures in watering

Last night I had my first misadventure in watering the horses at the barn.  I had planned to clean buckets today, so I only had to fill them and muck stalls last night after work.  I topped off the tanks in the front corral (where my boys are) and the 5-stall barn, but when I got to the 12-stall barn, there was no water coming out.

I mucked the stalls, checking the water occasionally, but still -- nothing.  The girl who trained me said that one of the neighbors fills his tank late on Thursday evenings, and that kills the water pressure for everyone else on the same well.  If that was the case, I'd just have to wait until the water pressure came back, but if the pump had broken I wouldn't be able to water at all.

Finally I notified the woman who runs the barn, and went to get dinner.  When I returned there was water again, luckily, so I filled everything and left the barn at last -- at 11 o'clock at night!  This evening after work I'll return and clean the buckets in the 12-stall -- a lot of work for one day, but since today is my lightest day of the week, it makes the most sense to do it all today.

Panama is generally a little confused as to why I'm at the barn and not paying attention to him.  He stands around and watches me, or hangs out nearby while I fill his corral's tank, before finally giving up and wandering away.

Even Rondo, who would prefer not to be ridden, was curious.

I got some sweet pictures of my boys together...

And also some very nice pictures of the sunset.

As late as it was before I finished chores last night, I didn't ride afterward.  I rode after doing chores Tuesday night, though, and as tired as I was afterward, I may not try that again until my schedule lightens up again.  It's only two more weeks until that time, though, so soon I'll have more time (and energy) to ride!
