A trail ride and some flooding

This morning it was overcast, but I got out to the barn for a ride anyway.  One of my friends at the barn rode with me in the arena, and then we hit the trail a little.  We went farther than Rondo has gone before, but still didn't do the full loop.

My weekend of horses and a ride on Rondo

Today I got out to the barn for the second time this weekend.  I was meeting with someone about potentially leasing Rondo -- more on that later -- and while I was there, I decided I should ride him.  After all, with V. leasing him and me being so busy all summer, I haven't actually ridden him myself in months.

A surprise free afternoon with my horses

I had a pleasant surprise today.  My day was originally planned to be quite busy, but my afternoon commitment canceled on me, so I found myself with several hours to myself.  So what did I do?

Went to the barn, of course.  After all, I've been talking about how I wanted to start getting out there more often.  Time to put my money... well, if I had money.  But I don't have money: I have horses.

Two clean horses

Monday night I got a call from a fellow boarder, kind of a nervous one, I have to admit -- but I ended up being glad she called me.

Someday I'll get to see my horses again...

I meant to finally get settled into my school year schedule this week: start freelancing regularly during the mornings and early afternoons, and then get out to the barn more often in the evenings (since I'm with the kids after school).  I remember being excited on Monday because I had that whole lovely week ahead of me.

And then I got sick.

Horses: How to scare your owner

Today Rondo gave me quite a scare, one of the most serious ones I've had yet as a horse owner.  He was turned out in the dressage arena in the back of the property, the one that is usually used as turnout and rarely as riding, and he was getting frisky with a gelding over the fence that was turned out in a pen right next door.  He reared up -- and came down so that the top cable on the fence went between his shoe and his hoof, wedging itself there.

Summer in the rear view: Life, death, and fall changes

My summer was so busy that I only posted twice in three months, and didn't ride much more than that, either.  Mostly it was because I was working so many hours taking care of the kids I nanny for, but I also was trying to maintain freelance writing work over the summer, plus I had a lot going on in my personal life.  My older kitty was sick all summer long, requiring a lot of care, and finally had to be euthanized the week before the kids went back to school.

All in all it was a whirlwind summer and I'm glad it's over.
