Swimming with the horses

My trainer trailered my horses over to a nearby lake so that the kids and I could have a day swimming with the ponies.

Trail ride firsts

Yesterday morning, V. and I went out on a very short trail ride -- V. rode Panama, and I rode Rondo.  It was my first time out on Rondo, although he'd gone half as far with my trainer a couple weeks ago; and it was V.'s first time out there on Panama, if you don't count the other day when she just went a very short distance with one of the trail riders.

Trailing riding: Back for more

The people I work for have been gone all week, so today I managed to get out to the barn to join the morning trail riding group.  It was a big group today, as it sometimes is on Fridays: with Panama and I, there were six horses and riders.  This group goes out every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday morning, but because of a variety of reasons -- because I'm trying to work on my novel as much as possible during my week off, and because I'm also puppy sitting for the people I work for, and I didn't want to leave the puppy too much the first few days -- I wasn't able to get out there for a ride earlier in the week.

Where to start?

It's been so long since I've blogged, I don't even know where to start catching up.  Rondo is being ridden more, V. (the 11-year-old I nanny for) is riding Panama twice a week (more as we can manage it until the end of summer), we took him to a show, and I finally went for a trail ride on Panama again -- he'd been struggling with his weight, so I wasn't riding him much until I felt reasonably sure we'd fixed the problem.  Also, Rondo finally moved up into the front corral, where Panama has lived for the past three and a half years -- I've wanted him up there since the beginning, but they finally decided to put a fourth horse in there, and Rondo got to be the one!  It's so nice having them together, and right up front, where they are both close to the tack room and where I like to park.

I'll blog about all this stuff in more detail when I have a chance -- at least, that's the plan.  For right now, I wanted to share a picture and a quick story.
